The other day I saw a fishing poster that said "keep calm and cast on" and I thought it would apply beautifully to knitting as well. Don't you think so?
Anyway, speaking of knitting, here's a picture of my personal yarn collection:
It takes up an entire shelf of my bedroom bookshelf, and I honestly have no idea how it got so large.
I always hear other people talking about their yarn "stash" and I've always wondered why someone would even want to have yarn stashed away. Every time it came up, I would think isn't the whole point of yarn to knit with it and not to just have it lying around?
But now, suddenly, I get it. A sizable yarn stash isn't something you work to achieve, it's an unavoidable hazard of being a knitter.
All of my yarn is left over from the projects for which I bought one too many skeins or from the projects that never came to be because I got sidetracked by somethings else. I never just bought yarn for the fun of buying it, and yet, another yarn stash has been born.
As far as hazards go, I suppose a wool-stuffed bookshelf isn't such a bad one.

I used to think yarn stashes were a crazy thing too! How could that stuff just sit around?? But, now here I am with a sizeable stash too! I've decided to take on some projects to deplete my stash though. I want to put that pretty yarn to work.

ReplyDeleteHahah when I read that you have a yarn stash, the first thought that popped into my head was "hoarder! just like me!" I don't knit, but i sew. So I have a fabric stash. The problem is, I don't have a fabric stash so I have a variety to work with. I see, I like, I buy! Baaaad habit. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

When I was 10 I crocheted blankets for my dolls ALL THE TIME, and had a HUGE yarn stash - now I don't have much at all. :/
ReplyDeleteP.S. Haha! I'm the same way...I buy so many nail polish colors based on name alone - it's like judging a book by its cover; but I simply can't resist! :P
I am totally guilty of not only having a yarn stash but a huge fabric stash and of course all of the fabric is 4way stretch. I kept buying fabric thinking I'd make skating dresses with them and never got around to it. Us skaters have the attention span of goldfish sometimes!

DeleteYour yarn stash has just begun, young grasshopper (ironic... I'm over 10 years younger than you! :)). My yarn stash has taken over most of the guest bedroom at this point. Really, most of it isn't yarn that I've bought and not used, but hand-me-downs from those who have sought to share the yarn love with a young knitter (a species that seems to be dying out, sadly) or just get rid of their yarn stashes. But I'm not complaining!
ReplyDeleteI just started knitting/crocheting a couple months ago, and my family found out... Then started buying me TONS of yarn! I've still only made three things, sadly. I'm extremely OCD, and every time I miss a stitch, I have to start over (with knitting) because I havent figured out how to fix it. Its the number one reason I prefer crocheting.
